Divorcee ‘raped’ in Cumilla

A divorced woman was allegedly raped by a neighbour at Uttarpara of Nangalkot upazila Cumilla on Thursday night, reports UNB.

The accused is Nuruzzaman Raju, son of Abdul Latif of the area.

Adra union parishad member Jahirul Islam Gazi said Raju stormed the house of the divorcee at night and violated her.

Hearing victim's screams, locals rushed in and chased him. At one stage, Raju jumped into a pond.

Locals, however, caught Raju from the pond and confined him to a fish enclosure. But, he fled breaking open a window.

Victims' father filed a case with Nangalkot police station in this connection, said Md Nazrul Islam, officer-in-charge of the police station.

He also said they were trying to arrest the accused.
