Tarique’s bank account to be frozen: Home minister

Home minister Asaduzzman Khan Kamal has said that directives would be issued to the foreign ministry to freeze the bank accounts of BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman and his wife Zubeida Rahman in England. He was inaugurating the renovated section of Ambar Shah Shahi Masjid in Karwan Bazar at around 2:00pm, after the jumma prayers.

A Dhaka court has ordered that necessary action be taken to freeze the three bank accounts in England of Tarique and Zubeida Rahman. The court issued this directive following an appeal by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Replying to journalists in this regard, the home minister said police action is taken overseas through Interpol. The court order to freeze the bank accounts will be relayed to the foreign ministry.

Home minister Asaduzzaman Kamal returned home yesterday after a three-day visit to China. He said, China will extend all assistance to send the 1.1 million Rohingyas back to Myanmar from Bangladesh. It will help resolve other knotty issues with Myanmar too, he said. “We had fruitful talks with China’s interior ministry. We discussed what is happening and what problems there are,” he added. The minister also said that an MOU had been signed between Dhaka Metropolitan Police and Beijing Police.

Speaking about the drive against drugs, the home minister said, China has had success in eliminating narcotics. They had fought against drugs too “China will help our government in its zero tolerance against drugs,” he said. He added that China would also extend cooperation to train Bangladesh’s police and fire fighters.
