A speedy trial tribunal in Rajshahi sentenced eight members of an outlawed party to life term imprisonment in a case filed for killing three policemen in Bera upazila of Pabna in 2010, reports UNB.

The convicted are -- Jahurul Islam, Hashem alias Khokon alias Bacchu, Joson Mollah alias Javed, Nizam Fakir, Rafiq alias Joita Rafiq, Ayub Ali, Shukur Ali Sarder and Jahangir Alam alias Kana Alam.

Among them, Jahurul and Bacchu were tried in absentia.

The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each, in default, to serve one year more in jail.

According to the prosecution, sub-inspector Kofil Uddin, nayek Wahed Ali and constable Shafiqul Islam of Dhalarchar police outpost, were shot dead by the outlaws at Maldar Hat badh in Bera upazila on 20 July 2010.

Constable Rashidul Islam filed the case with Bera police station on the next day.

Later, police pressed chargesheet against 15 people.

After examining all the records and witnesses, tribunal judge Anup Kumar Roy, handed down the verdict acquitting three other accused.

Four accused died during the trial.
