6 sentenced to death in Khadem murder case

A Dhaka court on Thursday sentenced six to death and another to life term imprisonment for killing administrative officer of Dhaka deputy commissioner's office Aminul Haque Khadem alias Anis Khadem in 2009, reports UNB.

The condemned convicts are- Mahabub Alam Liton alias Dat Bhanga Liton, Sheikh Shamim Ahmmed, Md Jewel, Kamal Hossain Biplob, Shahidur Rahman Khadem and Sohel alias Cats Eye Sohel while the lifer is Abdullah Mohammad Nazim Uddin Babu alias TNT Babu, alias Chula Babu.


Among them Liton, Biplob and Babu were tried in absentia.


The court also fined Babu Tk 20,000, in default, to suffer one year more in jail.


According to the prosecution, Aminul Islam Khadem was gunned down by the convicts in front of Malibagh Shahi mosque on 3 May, 2009 over grabbing property of a mazar.


Later, his son Saidul Haque Khadem filed a murder case with Motijheel police station on 4 May.


Mujibur Rahman, member of Rapid Action Battalion-3, submitted chargesheet accusing eight people on 30 November, 2009.


After examining all the records and 17 witnesses, Dhaka speedy trial tribunal no-4 judge Abdur Rahman Sarder handed down the verdict acquitting one accused.
