Man held for ‘raping’ 5-year-old girl

Police on Saturday night arrested a man from Jhenaidah district town for raping a five-year-old girl at Dhormotola in Jashore on Friday, reports UNB.

Police arrested Shafiqul Islam Babu, 22, an auto-rickshaw driver, from his grandparent's house at night, said additional superintendent of police (Jashore) Ansar Uddin.

The mother of the victim filed a case against Babu alleging that the auto-rickshaw driver lured her daughter into his room and raped her there on Friday evening.

She said Babu fled the scene when the victim screamed.

Later, the victim's mother filed a case against Babu.

As news of the incident spread around, locals staged demonstrations demanding Babu's arrest.
