'Raped' in car, RMG worker 'commits suicide'

A garment worker has 'committed suicide' after being raped in an Uber car by its driver in Agrabad area under Double Mooring thana in Chattogram city, reports UNB.

The 17-year-old girl, who used to live with her sister and brother-in-law, committed suicide by hanging herself from a fan of her room at Mogoltuli area in the morning of 24 April.

 Badsha, who was arrested from Pathantuli area early Sunday, gave statement to the court of Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Shafi Uddin under section 164 confessing to his guilt, said senior assistant commissioner Ashikur Rahman of Double Mooring zone on Monday.

According to Badsha's confession, once Badsha and the girl worked in the same garment factory and he used to disturb the girl.

After leaving the job he started to run Uber, a ride sharing company, car. On 23 April, he picked up the girl in his car and took her to an isolated place near Agrabad jamburi field where he 'raped' her in the car for two times.

As the girl lost her consciousness, he along with his mother took the girl to a hospital in Agrabad. After primary treatment, Badsha took the girl to his house. As the girl's condition deteriorated, he admitted the girl to a hospital and fled away.

On information, the girl's brother-in-law took the girl home where she committed suicide on 24 April.

The girl's sister filed a case for provoking her to commit suicide.

Police recovered the girl's bag, mobile phone and ID card from the house of Badsha.
