2 killed in separate ‘gunfights’

Two people were killed in separate incidents of alleged gunfights with the law enforcement in Kushtia and Narayanganj early Friday.

In Kushtia, Shahin, 32, hailing from Nurpur village of Kumarkhali upazila, was killed in a reported gunfight with police on the bank of the Padma river in Kasba area of Kumarkhali around 2:30am.

Shahin was an accused in a case filed over the murder of expatriate Rakib Hossain, said Kumarkhali police station officer-in-charge Abdul Khaleq.

Earlier on Sunday morning, the body of Rakib was recovered from Kali river in Kumarkhali.

Police sent the body of Shahin to Kushtia General Hospital for an autopsy, OC Khaleq added.

He further said several police members were also injured during the gunfight.

In another incident of an alleged gunfight with the detective branch (DB) of police in Galachipa Goalia Khal area of Narayanganj city, Moniruzzaman Shahin alias Banduk Shahin, 50, was killed.

Banduk Shahin was an enlisted top terror and an accused in 12 lawsuits, including murder, extortion and drugs peddling, said additional superintendent of Narayanganj police, M Sharfuddin.

DB OC Mahbubur Rahman and sub-inspector (SI) Mizan were injured in the gunfight, he added.
