Man sentenced to life in prison for raping teen

A Kurigram tribunal on Monday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for raping a teenage girl after abduction from Noleya village in Bhurungamari upazila in 2008.

The convict is Badshah Mia, son of Mozam Ali of the village.

Judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Amlan Kusum Zisnu also sentenced him to 14 years' imprisonment on another count.

The convict was fined Tk 3,000 and Tk 50,000 respectively on the two counts and he will have to serve three and five months more in prison in case of failure to pay the penalty.

As per the prosecution, Badshah abducted the victim on 6 June, 2008 and took her to Dhaldanga village where he raped her.

The victim's father filed a case with a court on 12 June, 2008.
