Two sentenced to death for kidnapping child

A Dhaka tribunal on Thursday sentenced two people to death and eight others to life term imprisonment in a case filed for kidnapping a minor child.

The convicts are Md Moshiur Rahman Montu, 40, of Kathalia upazila of Jhalakati district and Mizanur Rahman, 35, of Amtoli upazila in Bogura. Both are residents of Pallabi area of the city.

The lifers were - Md Rezaul Karim, 36, Nazrul Islam, 32, Md Abdullah Al Mamun, 38, Md Iqbal Hossain Shuvo, 28, Sajib Ahmed Kamal, 47, Md Alim Hossain Chandan, 27, Kawsar Mridha, 25, and Reza Mridha, 30.

Among the convicts, Mizanur, Kawsar and Reza are on the run.

The court also fined each of the lifers Tk 20,000 each, in default, to suffer two months RI.

According to the case statement, in 2015, the convicts kidnapped Abir from Banani area and demanded Tk 100 million ransom from the victim's family.

Abir's family also paid them Tk 20 million and later informed the matter to Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).

RAB rescued the boy arrested the convicts and also recovered Tk 1,80,00,000.

Abir'a uncle filed a case with Cantonment police station in this regard.

Dhaka Women and Children Tribunal- 7 Judge Md Khadem Ul Kayes handed down the verdict acquitting two other accused.
