At least one person was killed and dozens wounded after a pandal collapsed at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque on Friday evening during a storm, reports UNB.

Paltan police's in-charge Mahmudul Haq confirmed the casualty but could not give details.

The incident took place shortly after Iftar, the breaking of fast by Muslims in the month of Ramadan.

Fire service's deputy assistant director Jalil said that between 150 and 200 people were trapped when the pandal, measuring about 300X100 feet, collapsed.

"One person has been killed and 20-22 wounded," he said. "They've been taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital."

Sakib, a hawker, said that shortly after the incident, a group of bikers and bystanders rushed to rescue the victims.

They were later joined by fire service members.
