The officer-in-charge of Bonpara highway police was withdrawn on Tuesday in connection with the destruction of over 35,000 eggs of a trader who refused to pay bribe, reports news agency UNB.

Alim Hossain Shikdar, the OC, has been attached to the office of Bogura highway police superintendent.

Jahangir Hossain, superintendent of Bogura zone highway police, confirmed the development.

On 16 May, a pickup van carrying 35,100 eggs plunged into a ditch by the highway as one of its tyre punctured in Agran Sutirpar area of Baraigram upazila.

The driver sought help from police but they demanded a bribe of Tk 20,000. When the trader refused, the policemen cut off the rope which tied up the crates of eggs with the pickup van, destroying the eggs.

So far, six policemen have been withdrawn after an investigation into the incident.
