Stone-laden vessel sinks in Karnaphuli

 A lighterage vessel carrying 1,000 tonnes of stone sank in the Karnaphuli river early Thursday.

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) deputy director Gias Uddin said, lighterage vessel MV Sea Crown sank in an area adjacent to Shah Amanat Bridge south in the early morning as a crack developed at its bottom.

However, no casualty was reported.

Md Jahangir Alam, lighterage Labour Union's central committee member said, the accident occurred when the vessel owned by Abu Taher of Momta Trading Agency was coming to the west bank of the Karnaphuli river for unloading the stones.

However, all the 11 crew members of the vessel were rescued.
