60-yr-old man arrested for 'raping' teen

Police arrested a man in Shalikha upazila on Friday allegedly for raping a teenage girl whereby she became six months pregnant.

The arrestee is Abdul Mannan, 60, from Hazrahati village in the upazila.

Rabiul Islam, officer-in-charge of Shalikha police station, said the girl was raped by her neighbour Mannan about six months ago when she came out of her house to respond to the call of nature.

The rape suspect also threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident to anyone. The matter came to light recently as the victim became pregnant, according to police.

At one stage, Mannan's family took the girl to a clinic recently and got the child aborted.

Later, the victim's mother filed a case against Mannan on Friday and police arrested the rape suspect at night.

Meanwhile, a case was filed against three people over the reported rape attempt on a Class-I girl by a teenage boy in Sadar upazila of Sirajganj.

Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sirajganj sadar police station, said the incident took place on Wednesday afternoon when the victim was playing in a field near her house at Dukhiyabari village.

The 13-year-old boy took her to a ditch and tried to rape her.

Hearing the victim's scream, locals rescued the girl while the boy managed to flee.
