Dhaka-Sylhet rail link cut off

The capital's rail communication with Sylhet remained suspended since Sunday morning after a local train derailed at Rashidpur railway station.

"Two compartments of Sylhet-bound 'Kushiara Express' veered off the tracks around 9:35am, halting train movement," said Gaurav Kumar Prasad, assistant railway master of Sayestaganj railway station.

Dhaka-bound Jayantika Express from Sylhet was stranded at Sreemangal railway station while Sylhet-bound Parabat Express from Dhaka was stuck at Sayestaganj railway station following the derailment.

A relief train from Akhaura railway station was on its way to the accident site, Gaurav said.
