BNP chairperson and former prime minister Khaleda Zia has spent time with seven of her family members at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr.

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chief has been undergoing treatment at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) following her illness. She has been languishing in jail since 8 February last year.

Receiving permission from the authorities, seven of her relatives went to the hospital to meet her on Eid morning. They took homemade food for her.

The family members include Khaleda Zia’s sister Selina Islam and Selina’s husband Rafiqul Islam, wife and son of her brother Sayeed Iskander and elder sister of her son Tarique Rahman’s wife.

Earlier, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir alleged that the government is not allowing BNP leaders to meet jailed BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia.

"We submitted an application to meet her but did not get permission," Fakhrul said.

BNP chairperson’s press wing member Shamsuddin Didar told Prothom Alo that BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia conveyed Eid greetings to the people country through her family.
