3 held over RMG worker’s ‘gang-rape’

Police have arrested three people from Guzbazar area in Kendua upazila of Netrakona in connection with the reported 'gang-rape' of a female readymade garment worker, reports UNB.

The arrested are Tipu Mia, 23, son of a certain Rango Mia, Anwar, 24, son of Sabuj Mia, and Amir Hamza, 24, son of Abdul Kadir, all residents of Bairati village in the upazila.

However, the prime accused, Nur-e-Alam, has been on the run.

Md Rasheduzzaman, officer-in-charge of Kendua police station, said they made the arrest on Friday night and Saturday morning.

He also said the victim filed a case with the police station on Friday noon.

The arrested confessed to their involvement in the incident in primary interrogation, the OC claimed.

Introducing himself as Sumon, Nur-e-Alam, son of Abdul Hamid of the Bairati village, had developed a relationship with the victim of Maska village in the same upazila while working at the same sweater factory in Gazipur.

They came to their villages to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr. Nur-e-Alam invited his female peer to visit his house and took her on Thursday by a motorcycle for this.

Later, Nur along with the victim visited different places. They reached Guzbazar in the evening when he told her that the motorcycle went out of service.

He made a phone call to someone and soon three youths appeared and took them to a brick kiln forcibly where the trio raped the female RMG worker in turns after tying up Nur.

However, all of them, including Nur, fled the scene leaving the victim behind, the case statement said.
