A tribunal in Feni on Monday took cognisance of charges against 16 accused in the madrasa girl Nusrat Jahan Rafi murder case, reports UNB.

Judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Mamunur also fixed 20 June to begin the charge-framing hearing against them.

Principal of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa SM Sirajuddoula and 15 other accused were produced before the court today.

Of them, Awami League leader Ruhul Amin, Sonagazi municipality councillor Maksud Alam alias Moksud, Absar Uddin, Mohammad Shamim, Iftekhar Uddin Rana and Nur Uddin prayed for bail only to be rejected by the court.

The other accused are Shahadat Hossain Shamim, Imran Hossain Mamun, Hafez Abdul Quader, Kamrunnahar Moni, Saifur Rahman Mohammad Zobair, Javed, Umme Sultana Popy, Mohiuddin Shakil and Abdur Rahim Sharif.

The court also acquitted five other detainees -- Nur Hossain, Alauddin, Kefayet Ulla Joni, Saidul and Ariful Islam -- as the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) did not find their involvement in the murder of the madrasa girl.

Nusrat had accused the principal of sexually harassing her. She was set on fire at an examination centre in Sonagazi upazila on 6 April last allegedly by people loyal to Sirajuddoula. She died on 10 April at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in the capital.
