Eight people including five children were injured when the plaster ceiling of Noakhali 250-bed General Hospital collapsed on Wednesday morning.

The incident took place around 6:20am in Unit 2 of No. 4 children ward of the hospital, said Humayun Kabir, senior station officer of Maizdi fire service and civil defence.

A fire service team went to the hospital and conducted a rescue operation with the assistance of the hospital authorities.

None of children was seriously wounded.

Fariduddin Ahmed, assistant director of the hospital, blamed the building's dilapidated condition for ceiling collapse.
