Daughter burnt, mother injured as miscreants set house on fire

The burnt down house of Shazenur. Photo: Prothom AloA woman sustained burn injuries and her daughter was killed as miscreants set her ablaze and her house with petrol in Patharghata upazila of Barguna early Thursday.

The victims are Shazenur Begum, 30, and her 10-year-old daughter Sakhina Akter.

Injured Shazenur said her former husband Belal Hossain along with others poured petrol on her and set her on fire.

They also set her house ablaze, she added.
After first aid at Patharghata Upazila Health Complex, Shazenur was taken to Barishal Sher-E-Bangla Medical College and Hospital.

Physicians at the medical college said Shazenur was in a critical condition.

Her neighbours said they went to the spot after hearing screaming from the home.

They said the house was burnt down in just 15 minutes.

They then recovered burned body of Sakhina.

Patharghata health complex acting residential medical officer Md Ziauddin told Prothom Alo on Thursday morning that 80 per cent of Shazenur’s body was burnt and she was in a critical condition.

Patharghata police officer-in-charge Md Hanif Sikdar said police have already visited the spot.

Legal action will be taken, he added.
