3 JMB men get 10 yrs jail

A Chapainawabganj court on Wednesday sentenced three members of banned militant outfit Jamaatul-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) to 10 years of imprisonment each in a case filed under firearms act, reports UNB.

The convicts are -- Md Selim alias Harun Mistry, 37, frmo Charmahan in the municipality area, Shahdat alias Nayan, 42, of Nimtola Kathal in Gomastapur upazila and Abdul Momin, 34, of Kaysadiar area in the upazila.

Additional district and sessions judge Shawkat Ali delivered the verdict at noon in presence of the accused in the dock.

The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each, in default, to serve additional six months rigorous imprisonment.

According to the prosecution, RAB arrested Selim along with a pistol and two rounds of bullet at Jaharpur Bakripara in Sadar upazila on 7 July 2009.

According to his information, RAB arrested Shahdat and Momin.

RAB filed a case with sadar police station on the following day and sub-inspector Kamrul Islam submitted charge sheet accusing the three on 6 August.
