The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has decided to interrogate the bodyguard and driver of police’s suspended Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Mizanur Rahman on Sunday in connection with the allegation of bribery against him, reports UNB.

Bodyguard Hridoy Hasan and driver Saddam Hossain were asked to appear at the ACC headquarters on 7 July, ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya said.

Earlier on 1 July, the national anti-graft body sent a letter to DIG Mizan asking him to turn up at its office at 10:00am on 8 July for interrogation as he skipped the grilling on 1 July citing personal reasons.

A private TV channel recently reported that Mizan gave Tk 4 million to ACC director Khandaker Enamul Basir to get clean chit in a corruption case.

Top-ranking police officer Mizanur Rahman amassed Tk 32.8 million illegally between 1998 and 2018, according to a probe conducted by the ACC.

The additional commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) made the money by taking bribes and committing corruption.

He was withdrawn on 9 January last year following an allegation of threatening a female news presenter of a private television channel.

He had also reportedly married a woman forcibly and tortured her. Mizan allegedly picked up the 25-year-old woman in July, 2017 and forcibly married her.
