Jatiya Party acting chairman GM Quader on Saturday said physicians are expecting that his brother HM Ershad, now on life support at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) here, may get well with modern treatment, reports UNB.

"Unnecessary water from Ershad's body is being removed and infections are being controlled as he has been undergoing dialysis for the last two days. Doctors are hopeful he may get well with modern treatment," he said.

Speaking at a press briefing at JaPa chairman's Banani office around 12:00noon, Quader, however, said Ershad is still not out of danger.

He said Ershad has been on life support, and it will be removed when his condition becomes normal.

Quader expressed gratitude to several thousand people who thronged the CMH on Friday to donate blood following news about the necessity of blood for the JaPa chief.

He also thanked people for praying in religious institutions on Friday seeking speedy recovery of his brother.

The JaPa acting chairman also said CMH physicians sent Ershad's all reports to Singapore, but they did not suggest sending him there.

Meanwhile, deputy leader of the opposition in parliament Raushon Ershad along with some other family members recited verses from the holy Quran for about an hour beside her ailing husband Ershad at the CMH.

She urged the country's people to pray for Ershad's quick recovery.

The 89-year-old former military strongman was put on life support at 4:10pm on Thursday last.
Ershad, also the leader of the opposition in parliament, was admitted to the CMH on 26 June as his condition deteriorated.

He has been suffering from various old age complications, including low haemoglobin and liver problem, high bilirubin and serious knee pain.
