Protests against gas price hike in pictures

The Left Democratic Alliance (LDA) is observing a half-day hartal (strike) across the country protesting the recent gas price hike. Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has expressed solidarity with the demonstration. The programme began at 6:00am and will end at 2:00pm. On 30 June, the government raised the gas price by 32.8 per cent on average with effect from 1 July 2019. Prothom Alo’s photojournalist Saiful Islam captured pictures of the protest being staged at Paltan in the capital on Sunday.
