Son kills Bangladeshi parents, sister among 4 in Canada
A 23-year-old youth born to a Bangladeshi family in Toronto of Canada has allegedly killed four of his family including mother, father and sister, reports The Star.
The Toronto-based media outlet also said the youth, Menhaz Zaman, is now in the custody of York regional police and charged with what the media said is a ‘four-count of first-degree murder.’
CBC News Toronto published the youth’s statement about the murder posted online in a gaming network.
"I've just slaughtered my entire family, and will most likely spend life in jail if I manage to survive," a user going by the name Menhaz posted to Discord, software used by hundreds of millions of gamers around the world to communicate online.
"I wanted them to die so that they didn't suffer knowing how much of a pathetic subhuman I was. It's all very selfish," CBC also quoted his statement further.
Quoting relatives, The Star report said, “He’d dropped out of university and felt like a “pathetic coward subhuman” who’d disappointed his parents.”
York regional police charged Menhaz Zaman after four bodies were found at a house on Castlemore Ave. on Sunday afternoon.
Though the Canadian police did not confirm the identities of the victims or their relationship to the accused, former tenant of the victim family Ammara Riaz identified them as Moniruz Zaman, his wife Momotaz, their daughter Malesa and his grandmother, the report added.
“He was such a nice, quiet, calm guy,” Ammara was quoted to have said about Menhaz.
“I saw that guy all the time helping his parents,” she was also quoted as saying.
It also said the police had received a call just before 3:00pm on Sunday.
“There were possibly multiple people injured inside the residence,” York regional police spokesman Const. Andy Pattenden was also quoted to have said in a news conference on Monday.
“When our officers arrived, they did find a man at the front door of the residence. That man was arrested and has been in custody ever since,” he was also quoted.
