Teenage girl raped and killed by uncle: Police

A man allegedly killed his college-going niece after rape in Singra upazila of Natore on Sunday, reports UNB.

The victim is Reshmi Khatun, 16, daughter of Abdur Razzaque of Dougachha village in the upazila and a class-XII student.

Officer-in-charge of Singra police station Monirul Islam said other family members went to nearby Pakuria village at noon to attend the funeral of one of their relatives keeping Reshmi at the house.

Taking the chance, Reshmi’s paternal uncle Shahadat Hossain, 30, allegedly raped her and later strangulated her to death fearing that she might disclose the matter, he added.

He hanged the body with the ceiling to make it appear that she committed suicide. The victim’s younger sister found her hanging after she returned from her school in the afternoon and started screaming, the OC also said.

Locals rushed in and caught Shahadat following his suspicious movement.

Later, police went to the spot and arrested him. They also sent the body to hospital morgue for an autopsy.
