Woman 'raped', keeping son at knifepoint

Three men allegedly assaulted and raped a woman keeping her five-year-old son at knifepoint in Subarnachar upazila of Noakhali early Sunday.

Officer-in-charge of Charjabbar police station in Subarnachar, Mohammad Sahed, told Prothom Alo that they had arrested Nurul Huda, 58, Nur Uddin, 42, and Md Delwar, 43, on charges of raping the woman.

The victim, 25, who has been undergoing treatment at Noakhali General Hospital, said that she along with her son started living with her parents in Subarnachar for around a month as her husband died a few months ago.

None of her parents was home early Sunday. Around 1:30am, three men broke into her room and started assaulting her, alleged the woman.

When the victim's son began crying, two of the men held him at knifepoint and the third one raped her, she added.

Noakhali General Hospital administrator, Md Khalil Ullhah, told Prothom Alo that the victim got herself admitted at the hospital on Sunday morning.

A number of medical tests were carried out on her and several others would be done Monday, he added.

Charjabbar police station OC said, the arrestees Nurul Huda, Nur Uddin, and Md Delwar were being interrogated in a case filed over the rape incident.

Since 30 December, 2018, the day of the 11th parliamentary elections, a number of women were either raped or gang raped in Subarnachar.

A mother of four was gang raped with her husband and children being tied up. Later, another mother of six was raped. Another woman committed suicide following arbitration on an attempted rape.
