College teacher among 2 detained over ‘spreading rumours’

Two people, including a college teacher, were detained in Bogura on Monday on charges of spreading rumours through social media about prime minister Sheikh Hasina and construction of the Padma Bridge, reports UNB.

The arrested persons are Masudur Rahman Titu, 48, a lecturer of Baluahat Degree College and son of Abu Jafar Mondol of Jhopgari area of the district town, and Benjur Ahmed, 28, son of Sadequl Islam of West Chhatni village of Adamdighi upazila.

Police arrested Titu from Jhopgari area while Benjur Ahmed from Jamil Nagar area of the town in the morning.

Imran Mahmud, inspector of Cyber Police Bogura, said the duo was spreading rumours about the prime minister and the Padma Bridge in social networking site Facebook.

A case was lodged with Sadar police station against them under the Digital Security Act, he added.
