The district administration has opened help desks at bus terminals and railway stations to check home-bound people for dengue to contain the spread of the mosquito-borne disease.

Help desks were installed at 58 bus terminals and eight rail stations in 17 upazilas.

Leaflets will be distributed to raise awareness about dengue among the people. The desks will start operation before the Eid-ul-Azha slated to be celebrated on 12 August.

Members of District Transport Owners-Workers Association, employees, officials and staff of Health Department and volunteer organisation will provide services.

Bangladesh is struggling with its worst-ever dengue outbreak. Three deaths were reported on Wednesday while 2,428 new patients were hospitalised across the country. Of these,

1,275 new dengue cases were reported from Dhaka alone.

There are fears that the situation will worsen when people travel to their village homes from Dhaka, the epicenter of the outbreak, during Eid.

Since its beginning this year, 32,340 people were hospitalised across the country with dengue while 23 lost their lives, according to government data. Currently 8,707 patients, including children, are undergoing treatment at hospitals.
