Two Japan nationals were detained with 30 gold bars, weighing 12 kg, from the Hazrat Shahajalal International Airport on early Thursday, reports UNB.

Customs intelligence officials identified them as Takeo Mimura and Shuichi Sato.

Shahidul Islam, the director general of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate, said the duo came on an 'Air Aisa' flight from Malaysia around 12:30am.

Tipped off, a team of customs intelligence intercepted them and found the gold after frisking them.

The seized gold bars have an estimated value of Tk 60 million.
