Dhaka’s rail links with north, south restored after 4 hrs

The capital's rail communications with the northern and southern districts were restored in the afternoon after around four hours, reports UNB.

The derailment of Khulna-bound Sundarban Express at the eastern side of Bangabandhu Bridge had caused the interruption.

Masum Ali Khan, station master of Bangabandhu Bridge's eastern part, said two wheels of the train derailed around 1:30pm.

Engineers fixed the problem around 5:30pm before a salvage train from Dhaka reached the spot, he said.

The accident had left Rajshahi-bound Dhumketu Express stuck on the eastern side of the bridge. Dhaka-bound Silk City Express was also stranded on the western side after the accident.
