One killed as police van collides with microbus

Police van. File photoA man was killed and three other injured in a head-on collision between a police van and a microbus in Baraigram upazila of Natore on Wednesday morning.

The accident took place on the Bonpara-Hatikumrul highway of Mohishbhanga in the upazila.

According to Baraigram Bonpara highway police, additional police super of Baraigram circle Harun Ar Rashid was busy patrolling the highway in a government van. The van collided with the microbus at Mahishbhanga on the way to Baraigram.

The driver of the microbus Shahjahan Ali, 32, was killed on the spot while Harun Ar Rashid along with his bodyguard Ibrahim Hossain and police van driver Mobarak Hossain sustained injuries.

Initially, the wounded were taken to Amena Hospital in Bonpara. Later, they were shifted to Natore Sadar Hospital.

It was raining when the accident took place, Bonpara highway police station sub-inspector Mahfuzur Rahman said adding that “the microbus driver might have been drowsy while driving.”

The body of the deceased was recovered and sent to highway police station. Shahjahan was from Munshiganj.
