The Chamber Judge has fixed 19 August to hear an appeal by the state seeking a stay on the High Court Division order to maintain a status-quo for two months on publication of gazette notification of the ninth wage board for journalists.

Chamber Judge Md Nuruzzaman on Wednesday sent the appeal, filed on 8 August, to be heard by a regular Appellate Division Bench.

The bench of justice Obaidul Hassan and justice Mohammad Ali issued the status-quo on 6 August after hearing a petition filed by Matiur Rahman, president of Newspaper Owners Association of Bangladesh (NOAB), on 5 August.

Attorney general Mahbubey Alam and deputy attorney general Amit Talukder represented the state during Wednesday’s hearing. AF Hasan Arif and Md Ujjal Hossain stood for NOAB.

Last month, minister Obaidul Quader said a gazette will be published after the Cabinet approves recommendations for implementing the Ninth Wage Board.

Quader said they made realistic recommendations after discussions with the stakeholders.
