Ex-OC, wife jailed for accumulating illegal wealth

A Dhaka court on Wednesday sentenced former officer-in-charge of Goalanda police station to seven years' imprisonment and jailed his wife for two years for accumulating illegal wealth, reports UNB.

Delivering the verdict, judge of the Dhaka Special Judge Court-4 Sheikh Nazmul Alam also fined Saiful Islam Tk 300,000 and his wife Zakia Islam Tk 100,000. They will have to serve one more year and three months in jail respectively if they fail to pay the fine. 

The couple was present on the dock when the judgment was pronounced.

According to the prosecution, Saiful and his wife submitted their wealth statements to the ACC on 29 September, 2009 where they concealed information about assets of Tk 4.2 million.

Charges were framed against the couple on 1 August, 2011 in the case.
