At least eight people were killed and 20 others injured after a Gopalganj-bound bus fell off a bridge in the Faridpur Sadar upazila on Saturday, reports UNB.

The identities of the deceased could not be known yet.

Police said the accident took place at Dhuldi area on the Dhaka-Faridpur Highway around 2:30pm.

Kotwali police station's officer-in-charge FM Nasim said six people were killed on the spot after the 'Comfort Paribahan' bus fell off the bridge.

The injured were taken to Faridpur Medical College Hospital (FMCH), the OC said.

Two of them succumbed to their injuries at FMCH, said fire service's assistant deputy director Shawkat Ali.

Faridpur region's Highway Police superintendent Mostafizur Rahman said the driver lost control when allowing a speeding motorcycle to pass.
