DGHS receives reports of 169 deaths in dengue

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has received reports of 169 deaths in dengue.

After analysing 80 cases, in a press conference on Sunday afternoon, the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) also said only 47 of them had died of dengue infection.

Addressing the press conference, IEDCR director Mirzadi Sebrina said 1,299 new dengue patients have been admitted to the hospitals across the country in the last 24 hours.

Apart from that a certain housewife of Madaripur named Sumi Akter, 30, died early Sunday. She died while being shifted to a hospital in Dhaka from Shibchar Upazila Health Complex.

Shibchar upazila family planning officer Abdul Mokaddes said, “As the health condition of dengue infected Sumi deteriorated, physicians suggested shifting her to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.”
