Cabinet secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam on Monday hinted that immediate past Jamalpur DC Ahmed Kabir may face harsh punishment like dismissal or demotion if he is found guilty of sexual scandal as leaked in a video, reports UNB.

"According to Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, he [Kabir] may lose his job or be demoted if he's found guilty in probe report," said the cabinet secretary.

Shafiul Alam said this replying to a question while briefing reporters at the secretariat after the weekly cabinet meeting.

Ahmed Kabir was made an officer on special duty (OSD) on Sunday after a video footage was leaked showing him in a compromising position with a female office assistant.

The cabinet secretary said a probe committee has been formed to investigate the incident. If Kabir is found guilty, legal action will be taken against him, he added.

"The committee will investigate it neutrally. It'll also examine whether there's any technical manipulation in the video. Technical experts are there in the committee," said Shafiul Alam.
