Dengue claims another life

A 55-year-old man died of mosquito-borne disease dengue at a private hospital in Chattogram on Saturday, reports UNB.

The deceased is identified as Badsha Molla, of Jafrabad area in Sitakunda.

Nurul Hayder, medical officer (disease control) at Civil Surgeon’s office, said Badsha Molla died of dengue at Park View Hopital in the city around 5:00am.

Park View Hospital’s in-charge (special unit) A Arafat said Badsha was admitted to the hospital on 22 August.

At least 1,025 new patients were hospitalised across the country in 24 hours until Friday morning, according to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The government said 69,435 patients had been hospitalised since 1 January. Of them, 64,558 were discharged after recovery.

Currently, 4,697 people are being treated for dengue across the country. Of them, 2,610 patients are in Dhaka.

Since January, the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) has received complaints of 180 dengue-related deaths.

It has so far reviewed 88 cases and confirmed that 52 of them were caused by dengue.
