Dengue claims four more lives

Four more people including a child have died of dengue.

Of them, two were from Dhaka, one from Savar and another from Jashore.

Among the deceased, Khadiza Begum, 42, from Savar municipality died on Saturday night.

According to her family, Khadiza was suffering from fever for several days before being admitted to Savar Enam Medical College Hospital on Saturday afternoon. Earlier, she was treated at home.

She succumbed to her ailment after a few hours of getting admission here, manager of the hospital Yousuf Ali said.

Imtiaz Mahmud, 17, from Araihajar, Narayanganj died on Saturday afternoon. Imtiaz, an 11th grader of Narsingdi College, was undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

He was admitted to the DMCH on Friday afternoon after he had suffered from fever for five days, said his uncle Alamgir Hossain.

Araihajar upazila health and family planning official Habib Ismail Bhuiyan said Imtiaz was diagnosed with dengue after getting admitted to the hospital. He was sent to the DMCH for advanced treatment.

Another elderly man Abdul Quddus, 60, from Barandali village of Keshabpur, Jashore died on Saturday night. According to family, he was admitted to Keshabpur Upazila Health Complex on Friday afternoon and was transferred to Khulna Medical College Hospital on that day as his condition deteriorated. He died while undergoing treatment on Saturday night.

Abdul Quddus had several complications along with dengue, said Harun-or-Rashid, upazila health and family planning officer.

A four and a half years old child, Anfi, from Mirpur, Dhaka died at Dhaka Shishu Hospital of dengue, confirmed physician Kingkor Ghosh from the hospital.

With this, the number of dengue patients dying under treatment rose to 194.

Prothom Alo estimates the number on the basis of information provided from concerned hospital, family members, civil surgeons and government statistics.

According to the government, the number is 185 while information over 96 deaths has been verified. Among the 96, the government has confirmed 57 deaths were caused by dengue.

According to government statistics, 71,097 dengue patients were admitted to the hospitals till 1 September. Among them, 405 were admitted in Dhaka in past 24 hours while 497 were hospitalised out of the capital.
