Bangladesh’s national anthem in 50 languages

The second edition of the book ‘Amar Sonar Bangla’ (My Golden Bengal), a book containing the translations of Bangladesh’s national anthem in 50 languages including Belarusian, has been published by Belarus National Publisher Yakub Kolas Printing House.

Earlier a news agency UNB report said the first edition of the book was published on 1 February 2019 ahead of the International Language Day.

Bangladesh adopted the first 10 lines of Rabindranath Tagore’s ‘Amar Sonar Bangla’ poem as its national anthem after independence in 1971.

Bangladeshi engineer Muzahidul Islam, living in Minsk, has supported the planning and making of the book published on 1 February, Belarus information minister Alexander Karliukevich then told the media.

Kazakhstan literary critic Svetlana Ananyeva, Belarusian translator Maria Kobets, chairman of the Astrakhan regional branch of the union of writers of Russia Yuri Shcherbakov, publicists, writers, translators from Dagestan (Russian

Federation) Kerimkhan Umakhanov and Marat Hajiyev were on the international editorial board of the book.

Its preface was written by UNICEF representative in Belarus Rashed Mustafa Sarvar. A series of drawings from famous Bangladeshi artist Zaynul Abedin were used as illustrations in the book.

The translators include well-known writers in their national literature.

In the Belarusian language, ‘My Golden Bengal’ was translated by Sergei Paniznik, Hope Solodka, Naum Galperovich, Maria Kobets and Nikolai Metlitsky.
