An organisation of government employees on Friday demanded amending the eighth pay scale to reduce, what they called, "disparity" in salary scale between 1-10 and 11-20 grades, reports UNB.

A body of employees of 11th-20th grades held a media briefing at the Jatiya Press Club where its convener Md Mahmudul Hasan read out a prepared statement.

Their demands include reinstating time scale and selection grade, increasing annual increment to 20 per cent from 5 per cent; providing standard quality ration for low salary employees and 100 per cent pension system.

"Various ministries and departments employ around 1.2 million employees of 11th-20th grades. The country cannot go forward without us. So we demand equality in salary scale as per the grades," Mahmudul said.

He said they will submit a memorandum to prime minister Sheikh Hasina on 30 September.

"We request the government to accept our demand on humanitarian ground," he said.
