Declaring a zero tolerance against gang culture, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia on Saturday said it will be wiped out from the capital, reports UNB.

"No gang group will exist in Dhaka city. There'll be no term like 'juvenile gang', 'big gang' or 'local gang' in the city. All will be rooted out," he said while talking to reporters after inspecting security measures at Imambara Hosseini Dallan in Old Dhaka ahead of holy Ashura.

Holy Ashura, commemorating the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), will be observed in the country on 10 September.

A total of 110 alleged members of juvenile gangs were arrested from Hatirjheel area in the capital on Friday night.

Besides, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) and local police have arrested more than 300 members of juvenile gangs from Mohammadpur and Mirpur areas,
He said.

A teenager was killed at Mohammadpur after being attacked by members of rival juvenile gang.

Turning to Ashura, the DMP chief said they have taken foolproof security measures over Tajia procession.

He said the use of all kinds of sharp weapons, metals, flammable objects, bags, pots, sticks, knives, swords and fireworks is prohibited during Tajia procession.

Asaduzzaman also said no bike can take part in the mourning procession and the height of flag in the procession cannot exceed 12 feet.

No one from different streets will be allowed to enter the procession halfway. To participate in the procession, all must go to the beginning point, he said.

Before entering the mourning procession, all must go through archways and metal detectors and body search, the DMP commissioner said.
