Woman dies of dengue, number of patients fall

A woman has died of dengue in Rajshahi while 716 new patients have been hospitalised across the country, showing a 6 per cent fall in dengue infections from Sunday's figure, reports UNB.

The new death was recorded on Monday noon while the new infections were reported in 24 hours till Monday morning.

Shapla Khatun, wife of Hasibul Islam of Puthia upazila, succumbed to the dengue-borne disease at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) around 12:00 noon, said its deputy director Saiful Ferdous. 


She was admitted to the hospital with dengue on 4 September, Saiful added.

Since January, the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) received information about 197 dengue-related deaths. So far, it has reviewed 101 cases and confirmed 60 dengue deaths.

Of the new patients, 300 were admitted to different hospitals in the capital while 416 were outside, according to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Currently, 3,091 dengue patients are being treated at hospitals and clinics across the country,

The government said 77,230 people were hospitalised with dengue since the beginning of this year. Of them, 73,942 went home after full recovery.
