Man killed in Mymensingh ‘gunfight’

A suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight with DB police at Phulpur  upazila in Mymensingh district early Saturday, reports UNB.

A DB team arrested suspected robber Shaon from Jashore in connection with killing of a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver Zahirul Haque and snatching his auto-rickshaw on 24 March, said SA Newazi, additional superintendent of police (crime).

After he made confessional statement at the court, the DB team conducted a drive along with Shaon early morning to arrest his cohorts.

Sensing the presence of police, the robbers reportedly opened fire on them, prompting them to retaliate, triggering the gunfight.

The gunfight left an unidentified robber dead on the spot, claimed Newazi.

Later, the body was sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
