Mother, daughter killed as train hits rickshaw van

A woman and her minor daughter were killed when a train hit a rickshaw van on an unauthorised level crossing at Belaichandi in Syedpur upazila of Nilphamari on Monday, reports UNB.

The deceased were Mariam, 25 and Jotsna, 8.

Lutfur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Syedpur police station, said the accident took place around 6:45am when the Rajshahi-bound ‘Barendra Express’ train hit the van carrying the duo while it was passing the unauthorised level crossing, leaving them dead on the spot.

The van driver managed to flee.

On information, police recovered the bodies and sent those to local hospital morgue for autopsy.
