A man was killed in what law enforcers called an alleged infighting between two gangs of robbers at Shakchar in Lakshmipur sadar upazila early Saturday, reports UNB.

The identity of the deceased could not be known yet. Police, however, claimed the deceased was robber.

Being informed about a gunfight between two robber gangs, a police team went near a brick kiln in Shakchar, said Sadar police station officer-in-charge AKM Azizur Rahman Mia.

"Policemen fired nine rounds of bullets," he added.

When the 'robbers' fled the scene, police found a man with life-threatening bullet injuries at the spot and took him to the Sadar Hospital, where physicians pronounced him dead.

A light gun and three bullets were recovered from the spot, the OC said, adding a case had been filed.

According to the human rights body, Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK), at least 421 people were killed in alleged gunfights, crossfires or shootouts with the law enforcement agencies in 2018.

In the first eight months of 2019, the number of such killing was at least 264, the rights body said on its website.
