Five JMB men jailed for 17 Aug bomb attack

A special court here today sentenced five members of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahedeen Bangladesh (JMB) to 12 years rigorous imprisonment in a case lodged over 17 August 2005, bomb attack in Dhaka.

Judge Al Mamun of Dhaka Metropolitan Special Tribunal-2 passed the order, also fining the convicts Tk 30 thousand each, to suffer six-month imprisonment more in default.

The convicts are Abdullah Al Suhail, Abdur Rahman Masud, Nurul Islam, Habibur Rahman Habib and Mustafizur Rahman alias Musa.

Of the five, Habib and Musa are yet to be arrested.

According to the case documents, the convicts on 17 August 2005, caused a bomb blast near Khilkhet over bridge in the capital.

Then assistant sub-inspector Kawser Alam of Khilkhet police station filed the case.

Police on 2 November 2005 filed chargesheet in the case. The tribunal on 12 June 2006 framed charges against the convicts. A total of 19 prosecution witnesses deposed in the case on different occasion.
