Another man dies of dengue

A farmer died of dengue at Faridpur Medical College Hospital on Saturday morning.

The deceased was identified as Sirajul Islam, 40, son of Felu Sheikh of Narandia village in Saltha upazila of the district.

Kamda Prasad Saha, director of Faridpur Medical College Hospital, said Sirajul was admitted to Shibchar Upazila Hospital on Sunday with symptoms of dengue and was shifted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital on Monday.

Sirajul died early Saturday while undergoing treatment at the hospital, he said.

Ten people died of the mosquito-borne disease at the hospital since the beginning of the year, he added.

A total of 202 patients are being treated at the hospital while 30 new patients were admitted in 24 hours till Saturday morning.

The Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) on Friday confirmed 81 deaths after reviewing 136 cases out of 231 reports received since the beginning of the year.

A total of 360 new patients were hospatalised across the country in 24 hours till Friday morning, says Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) daily update.

Of the new hospitalisation, 82 were in Dhaka and 278 in other parts of the country, the DGHS said.

Currently 1,557 patients, including 990 in the capital, are being treated in different hospitals across the country.

Bangladesh has experienced a massive dengue outbreak this year. But the situation started improving from the beginning of September with relatively low number of new cases.

Since January, 86,903 people were hospitalised with dengue, most of them in Dhaka. Of them, 85,115 went home after full recovery.
