3 fishermen missing after trawlers collide in the Bay

Three fishermen remain missing while four others turned up injured after 2 fishing trawlers collided early Monday, 60 nautical miles away from Fairway Boya in the Bay of Bengal, reports UNB.

The missing fishermen are Jafar Hawladar, 35, son of Hashem Hawladar of South Amragachhiya village, Khokon Hawladar, 25, son of Shafayet Hawladar of Gabtola village and Monir Boyati, 28, son of Motleb Boyati of South Rajapur village, all within Shoronkhola upazila.

The fishing trawler named FB Semi Power-4 of Chottogram hit another trawler named Al-Karim in early morning as they were spreading the net in the mid-sea.

The injured Sumon Molla, 28, Al-Amin, 32, Ismail, 25 and Solaiman, 30, were admitted to Shoronkhola Upazila Health Complex.

M Saiful Islam Khokon, the owner of Al Karim, said they have to face a loss of Tk 20 lakhs as the main body of the trawler broke and 25 of their nets couldn't be recovered from the sea.

SK Abdullah, OC of Shoronkhola Police Station, said that the owner of Al Karim complained in this regard primarily. Legal steps would be taken after getting a written allegation, he added.
