A man was hacked dead while his wife injured during a ‘robbery’ at their house at Dakkhin Salna, Gazipur early Tuesday, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Abur Rouf, 65, while the injured is Mazeda Khatun of the area.

Tanvir Ahmed, ward councillor of Gazipur City Corporation, said a group of 7-8 bandits swooped on Rouf’s house around 2:00am cutting open the door and looted valuables, including gold ornaments and cash.

They also hacked Rouf and his wife with sharp weapons, leaving them injured.

The injured couple was taken to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital where doctors declared Rouf dead.

It was not clear whether it was a robbery or a planned attack due to enmity, UNB quoted Ezaz Shafi, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station saying. “Everything will be clear after investigation,” he said, adding that those involved in the incident will be arrested soon.
