Commuters suffer as Dhaka witnesses 45.2mm rain in two hours

City dwellers witnessed heavy rains for about two hours on Tuesday that inundated roads and lanes in many parts of the capital triggered huge traffic tailbacks.

Some 45.2 millimeters of rainfall were recorded that started at 12 pm, said, Ruhul Kuddus, a meteorologist at Bangladesh Meteorological Department, reports news agency UNB.

Many areas, including Rampura, Badda, Khilgaon, Mauchak, Malibagh,Shantinagar,Moghbazar, Mohammadpur, Motijheel, Kazipara, Gendaria, Tikatuli, Bijoy Sarani, Rokeya Sarani and Arambagh went under ankle-deep water, inflicting sufferings on commuters.

The commuters, especially schoolchildren, faced serious trouble in reaching their destinations due to waterlogging and lack of transport.

Many of them were seen wading through rainwater.

Besides, the Met Office recoded 62.2 millimeter rainfall in Chattogram division in the last six hours till 2:00pm on Tuesday.
